Absolute Batman #18 just dropped and it’s the perfect conclusion to the two-part Poison Ivy story — and man, it delivers.
Scott Snyder and Eric Canete wrapped everything up in the most intense, emotional way possible with one hand while seeding several story arcs with the other. This one is another 5/5 for me.

The Setup
We pick up right where #17 left off. Batman has made it deep into Poison Ivy’s lair and is going head-to-head with her. In this issue, we start getting these intriguing looks at Bruce’s mom and her mysterious connection to the Court of Owls. We also blink in and out of flashbacks to Bruce’s life as he struggles with the changing world around him and his reluctance to meet it. This sounds like a lot, but the story flows perfectly between the present fight and the bigger picture.

The Cool (and Brutal) Parts
- We get even more Poison Ivy backstory and see how deep her powers really go.
- Bruce is still reluctant to fully change even though he’s a huge part of how the world is shifting.
- Pennyworth gets a brand-new assignment with potentially huge consequences.
- Absolute Harley Quinn pops up again – wanting to help Pennyworth (In what way?).
- Dick Grayson is clearly gearing up for Absolute Robin — that slow burn tease has been fire.
- Some possible ally has learned Bruce’s identity – because of course they did, 6 ft 9 in doesn’t exactly blend in – has he tried just putting on some glasses?
- The issue raises the big question: how far is Batman actually willing to go?
The ending leaves you wanting #19 immediately. So many seeds get planted throughout, every one potentially leading towards a major ally or major villain arc. “A tree grows tallest when you care for its roots,” Gordon says in this issue — Snyder is definitely caring for the roots.
Final Verdict
This issue wraps the Poison Ivy arc beautifully while planting seeds for everything coming next. The action, the emotion, and the world-building all hit perfectly. If you’ve been reading the Absolute line, this one feels like a turning point for Bruce.
What did you think?
Did Absolute Batman #18 live up to the hype for you? What was your favorite moment — the Harley tease, the Dick Grayson setup, or that mother ending?
