I read Skinbreaker #1 after seeing some good buzz around it (mostly while devouring Kirkman’s other comic BattleBeast), and wow — it’s a standout debut. Robert Kirkman and David Finch absolutely crush it right out of the gate.

The Setup
The story follows an aging chieftain in a brutal, challenge-based society full of successor tensions, bloodlines, and a mysterious “skin breaking” ritual. It’s got layers of power, love (the non-romantic kind), later-life coming-of-age vibes, and reluctance — all wrapped in Kirkman’s signature style but with a fresh twist.

The Cool Parts
- David Finch’s art steals the show — every page is dense, detailed, and feels like a two-page spread. The colors pop and it’s a total visual feast.
- Flipping through gives you constant “wow” moments.
- Kirkman has been brewing this story since 2017 — the full thing is already written and the art is mostly done, so no delays expected.
- The timing feels perfect after the success of Invincible and Battle Beast — this one could be huge.
- The world-building has real emotional weight and the “skin breaking” mystery hooks you immediately.

Final Verdict
This is a strong, hype-building debut with top-tier art and a story that pulls you in right away. If you like detailed, action-packed fantasy comics with emotional depth, this one’s a must-grab. I’m already tempted by the Treasury Edition just for the art.
