Daredevil #1 Review: A Solid Setup Issue with Matt Murdock as Professor

I just read Daredevil #1 (Legacy #688) that dropped this month. Overall it’s a really solid setup issue. It checks all the boxes, but nothing was super spectacular… yet.

The Setup

The story gives us a slightly different spin with Matt Murdock now working as a professor. I’m not sure how much that’ll actually change the Daredevil side of things, but it’s an interesting angle to explore.

The Cool (and Interesting) Parts

  • The cover is nice cardstock — I kind of like the sturdier feel.
  • There is also some poetic language used in the book that is cool/interesting, like the pages about Hell’s Kitchen being built on blood.
  • We get an intriguing villain/killer reveal that sets up a lot of promise for the series.
  • The art is fantastic and the coloring is really good.
  • They did a True Believers blind bag drop as well (I know blind bags divide people).

Final Verdict

This is a very solid base for the new run. It’s not a mind-blowing first issue, but it’s well-done and has me interested to see where it goes. Lots of promise here.
