Absolute Batman: Ark M Review: Dark Origins of Arkham Asylum Hit Hard (Fantastic 5/5 One-Shot!)

Absolute Batman: Ark M just dropped (1/7/26) and it’s a fantastic stand-alone special that dives deep into the dark origins of Arkham Asylum. Snyder, Tieri, and the team absolutely crush it again.

The Setup

This one-shot tells the tragic story of Amadeus Arkham and how the asylum was built as a warning. We get the full heartbreaking backstory — his mother snapping, violent acts, and his orphan upbringing. It all leads to the creation of the facility for the criminal insane.

The Cool (and Dark) Parts

We see some files with names at the top: "Kirk Langstrom" (Absolute Man-Bat), "Pamela Isley" (Absolute Poison Ivy), "Hugo Strange", "Jonathan Crane" (Absolute Scarecrow, or the straw man), "Basil Karlo" (Absolute Clayface), and "Jervis Tetch" (Absolute Mad Hatter).

Final Verdict

This is a must-read one-shot for any Absolute Batman fan. The storytelling is dark, impactful, and really adds depth to the Arkham lore. Hands down another 5/5 from the Absolute line.
